Follow-up on Mr.Nuc

A few days ago (or last year, depending on how you look at it), I’ve published a short post about a Chinese tiny PC made by Realan, Mr.Nuc.
In a matter of hours that post got popular and the story spread on several websites in different languages.
Below are few of them:
Liliputing (English)
Ubergizmo (English)
MiniMachines (French)
24Gadget (Russian)
Comptoir Hardware (French)
Cnews.cz (Czech)

What’s to be learned from this?
There is certainly a market for these devices, and 2015 could be the year of “Wintel” Mini PCs.
There are literally dozens of Baytrail Z3735F or Z3736F devices  with Windows 8.1 with Bing coming in the next month or so (Minix Z64, Pipo X7, Mele, etc) – but if the price is right, manufacturers can sell “NUC- type” devices easily as well.

Mr. Nuc has a nice case, most people liked it, but they should ditch that cooling fan and make it cheaper, otherwise they will compete with Intel’s NUC devices and people will choose Intel if the price is similar.

Minimachines noticed the similarities between Mr.NUC’s motherboard and the Intel® NUC D34010WYK (see their animated GIF) – that could mean that Mr.NUC is a clone or they actually have some sort of partnership.
Looks like they do have a partnership with Intel (see this news story on their website).

Here are some more pictures with Mr. NUC.

Meet Mr.Nuc, a tiny mini PC

[Update] – more info and more pictures can be found here.

It’s no secret to anyone that there are less and less desktop PC’s being sold everyday.
Technology evolves, people now have smartphones with  4GB RAM and tablets with 64-cores GPUs.
And what will happen to “traditional desktop PC’s”? They need to evolve.

Same as the previous post, you’ll read here first about something that will be announced at CES  2015.
So here’s the tiny palm-sized PC built around Intel I3’s 4th gen CPU , the “Mr. Nuc V6″ from Realan.

– dimensions (cm) : 11.8 x 11.8 x 5.1
– CPU: 22 nm Intel I3’s 4th gen, with Intel HD 4400
– Storage: 32GB mSATA SSD + you can add your own 2.5” HDD
– RAM : up to 16GB DDR3 (2 slots) – not provided!
– 4 USB 3.0 ports
– mini HDMI
– IR receiver (so you can add a remote to it)
– Mini DisplayPort (and one audio out)

It comes with a 4GB usb stick containing the drivers and can be mounted behind a monitor (or TV).
Comes with three flavors (black, white, red) and while it does have a small fan on the CPU the manufacturer claims it that the noise is at 20db, so basically you’ll barely hear it.
At 30W consumption in full load, this is a very interesting device.
Priced around $300.
